Pluto and the Dwarf Planets

Hello Aliens, This will be our last post about the solar system! Today we learned about Pluto and the dwarf planets! Pluto used to be considered a planet and scientists here on Earth learned that its orbit was different than the real planets. Instead of a perfect orbit, Pluto's orbit goes into Neptune's orbit. With Voyager 2's data they also discovered similar bodies to Pluto, other Dwarf planets. NASA is our space program here in America and they hope to study deeper in our solar system soon! Thank you for listening to us and we can't wait to meet you! Miss Kettering's class here on Earth

Uranus and Neptune

Hello Aliens, Today we learned about Uranus and Neptune! They are the last two planets in our solar system! They are gas giants just like Jupiter and Saturn. Uranus is special because it is on its side. One side of the planet has the daytime and the other nighttime for very long periods of time. Both planets have rings and many moons. We do not know much about either planet because only one probe has visited each planet. Maybe you can visit them for us! Both planets are beautiful blue but Uranus also has some green in it too! Watch out if you visit Neptune, because it it very windy and has poisonous gases! Miss Kettering's class

Jupiter and Saturn

Hello Aliens, Today we started learning about the gas giant planets in the solar system! Jupiter is the first of the gas giant planets. It has a storm on it that has been there for so many years! It its the largest planet in our solar system. We cannot land a spaceship on Jupiter and Saturn because they are made of gas.  We also learned about Saturn! Saturn has beautiful rings that we can see from a telescope. Its rings are made of ice and rock. It also has so many moons! Jupiter also has many moons and has rings too!  Miss Kettering's class

Mars and Asteroids

Hello Aliens, Today we learned about the planet Mars! We learned that it gets its red color from the iron in its dirt. This is also in our blood and it is why our blood is red. The largest volcano in the solar system is also located on Mars. We have a rover on Mars right now called Perseverance. It is broadcasting pictures and video back here on Earth so that we can better see and learn about that planet. We also learned about asteroids. After the planet Mars there is an asteroid belt. Be careful when you come to visit, there are a lot of space rocks floating around there! Scientists think that all those space rocks were once a planet but for some reason it broke up into many little pieces.  Miss Sarah's class

Our Planet Earth

Hello Aliens, Today we learned more about our Earth and our Moon. Our Earth is so special in the solar system! The temperatures are just right for us to live. We get heat and energy from the Sun that keeps plants growing to feed us. We learned that our Earth has many layers that we cannot see normally. We live on our Earth's crust and our homes sit on that crust. Underneath our crust is three other layers including the mantle, the inner and outer core. Deep down inside the Earth is very hot. We have one Moon here on Earth and our Astronauts have visited it long ago! Miss Kettering's class

Mercury and Venus

Dear Aliens, Today we learned about the first two planets in our solar system, Mercury and Venus.  Mercury is a very small planet that has no air to breathe. It is so close to the Sun that there is a limited atmosphere, and many space objects hit it. Venus is our sister planet! It is nothing like Earth though. It has poisonous air and the rain would hurt us. It also spins backwards from Earth. Don't try to land on Venus, it is too hot! Have Fun, Miss Kettering's class

Our Sun and other Stars

Hello Aliens, This is Miss Kettering's class again! We are writing to tell you about our Sun! Our Sun in a star, but it is not the largest star there is. Our Sun is very important to Earth as it gives us heat and light to help things grow! Do you have your own star that gives heat and light that makes your planet just right? The Sun rises in the morning and sets at night when it is bedtime. The Sun is made of gases like Helium that we use to inflate balloons here on Earth that float! Tomorrow we learn about the first two planets in our Solar System! Miss Kettering's class

Our Solar System

Hello Aliens beyond our Solar System, This is Miss. Kettering's Kindergarten class on the planet Earth located in the Solar System. We are writing to say hello! We will be learning about the Solar System and we want to share the new things we will be learning with you. We hope that you will some day come visit us with the information we learn and share!
